There have been many times in my 32 years with a dad in the football “spotlight” when I have wanted to come out publically and defend him for the non-truths being told. However I was always taught to ignore it and rise above the critics, that he only wanted to focus on the team and that the public would work out the truths from the stories in their own time.

I will not be at any other club, in any role, next year.
I need to be clear on this, because by saying that I will not coach anywhere else, it seems I have inadvertently implied I may hold another position elsewhere. This is not the case, and I’ll tell you why.

On Thursday night whilst on “The Game Plan” I was shown the win/loss record for teams following their bye. After 13 rounds only Geelong had won their game following a bye.

We are constantly made aware of the importance of protecting our player’s heads and necks from high contact. We have also ensured that injuries to our ruckman’s knees are limited by creating circles in the middle of the ground for the bounce down contest. Both of these rules were created for a very good reason.

Football can bring many highs in life; playing your first senior game, being part of a winning team, and even better – a Premiership team. As a coach, seeing a young boy develop from a good school footballer into a great league player and achieving success, is a personal high.
